Vegetazione forestale a dominanza di Quercus ilex, Q. suber e di caducifoglie, che si sviluppa nei settori mediterranei più freschi (termotipo mesomediterraneo), dove costituisce la vegetazione climatofila. Si rinviene anche nella variante submediterranea del macrobioclima temperato, prevalentemente nelle aree a termotipo mesotemperato, dove rappresenta la serie edafoxerofila.

Forests dominated by Quercus ilex, Q. suber and deciduous species. They represent the climatophilous vegetation in the coolest sectors of the Mediterranean macrobioclimate (meso-Mediterranean), but can also be found in the the sub-Mediterranean variant of the temperate macrobioclimate, usually associated with the mesotemperate thermotype, where they represent the edaphoxerophilous vegetation series.
